TACTUS RE
Touch Reality
These sketches are some ideas for upcoming projects
This theme discusses the way we process our reality these days. Memories are formed and kept in gigabytes and saved on digital devices. Our five senses (touch, smell, hearing, sight and taste) are not used as much anymore to form lasting, engrained memories, but are replaced through the pixels of photographic images in a media- driven society. We see through the lenses of our cameras. This is not a negative thing. I am guilty myself of wanting to capture everything in pixels. I probably have 5000 alone on my phone... But the development of this concept is to remind us to experience reality through our given senses again. It is just not possible to capture a moment in form of a digitized image. Where is the smell of the surrounding? How did the surface of the object feel like? What were the true colors of the area? Did the object taste like something in particular? When you close your eyes and you smell a certain scent, can you remember that it was at that place you took a photo of when you didn't notice the smell in the first place?
Close your eyes and remember as you break up the pixels and tactus re; or touch reality!
